Conventions of a TV crime drama
Settings- In crime dramas it is a common convention for them
to be set in a big city or a capital as they usually have a high crime rate and
are seen as dangerous, not only this but people are also more likely to relate
to these places.
Title- Usually used to give some information on what the
programme will be about.
Title sequences- They tend to give some clues about what the
show is likely to contain, things such as blood, x-rays, gunshots are things
that often appear in crime dramas.
Characters- Separated into; crime solvers, criminals,
victims, friends of victims.
Narrative- Follows equilibrium theory but especially some
sort of mystery.
Binary oppositions- To keep audiences interested theses are
implemented between characters.
Camera angles- lots of close ups of the protagonist to show
he is the focus.
Lighting- dark lighting shown on the antagonist to show that
they are the evil one.
Props- usually see; guns, equipment, police tape, police
cars, newspapers.
Music- creates a tense, uncertain vibe with the audience.
Constant background noise.
