Race Representation- Comparison
In the band aid song the music is upbeat and positive throughout which conveys that the people who created the song are trying to convey the positive mesages of christmas by keeping the tempo of the song high. The lyrics of the song are talking aboutthe people who are going through struggles and the aim of the song is to spread the message of christmas to those who may not experience it otherwise. In contrast the world hunger advert plays slow music throughout. Similarly to the band aid song its aim is to raise awareness for those who are not in such a good situation but instead of trying to spread the positive cheer of a world known holiday the advertisement is attempting to convey a message of information and guilt. The adverts music does not consist of lyrics which connotes that there is not words that can describe the struggle that the people are going through. The slow tempo of the music is to make people slow their minds and really think about what it is thats going on and how difficult the people within the adverts lives are. Through this, the use of still images of the less fortunate and on screen text containing facts, the clear measage of struggle is conveyed. This is all an attempt to show the scale of difference in wuality of life between the audience of the advert and those it is about which creates a feeling of guilt for those viewing it, being that they are so much more well off and have most likely done very little to support the less fortunate, resulting in the audience feeling obliged to provide some sort of aid or support going forward. In beasts of no nation the message trying to be conveyed throughout is the difficulty of the young boys journey. It follows him as he passes through multiple tests and uses emotive shot types such as close ups and wditing techniques like shot reverse shot to create a more personal experience and connection between the main protagonist and the audience. The young boy goes through a more physical and violent struggle than the ones shown in the song and advert as not only does he require things like food, but the movie displays the full struggle a young boy in africa will face.
Good, insightful points such as the comment that the slow music will make the people slow their minds and think deeply. Also a good use of media terminology such as 'shot reverse shot' and 'protagonist', particularly when analysing the Beasts of No Nation. This should be done more for the other two, especially for 'Do they know its Christmas' , where you mainly talk about the song rather than the music video.
