Discuss how the use of voiceover helps to create meaning

The voiceover describes the exact message of the video advert which is stating who the advert is representing, from who’s point of view, who they are targeting and what it is that these people are all capable of.

In what ways could you argue that this shot challenges van Zoonen’s notion of objectification because of the meanings created by the use of sound, mise-en-scene and camerawork
The bottom of a woman is a commonly sexualised part of a woman and the fact that the shot is a close up of this body part in tight clothing suggests that they are trying to show that woman are sexy which is often thought to be wrong to do as it can be seen as an objectification of women.

What is the most effective media language technique used at this moment? How is this woman represented and how can it be linked to hooks and Gauntlett’s theory?
In this shot Gauntlet’s theory is relevant as the icon provided is different to normal as it is a person who has a prosthetic leg. Bell Hooks theory is also clearly relevant as the woman is clearly fighting a struggle as she only has one fully functioning human leg. The track is the most effective media technique being used in this shot as it is keeping audience attention on the woman in the shot.

What editing technique is used during this moment? What connotations does it create? What is the significance of the sports selected? How could you link it to Hall’s theory?
In the still on the write the editing technique of slow motion is being used to show the power and skill of the woman playing rugby. This connotes that the woman is fierce and powerful just like a man who plays rugby would be expected to be. Rugby is considered a very manly and physical sport and therefore this is challenging the stereotypes of common feminine women as they are partaking in a rough sport. It can be linked to Hall’s theory as it is opposing stereotyping of women suggesting that they are not just tied down to one skillset but are capable of much more.

To what extent does the still challenge stereotypes? How could you link it to the different waves of feminism and theories like van Zoonen and Butler.

The still on the right challenges the stereotype that only women are responsible for the care of a child as there is a man amongst the women who is exercising with a baby. The still also opposes van zoonens theory as both men and women are represented in the same way as childcarers.

What technique has been used in the following still and what does it suggest about womanhood?

The shot used in the still is an aerial shot, the effect of it is that the group of woman are all displayed and are equal. Framing is also used to show the unity and equlity amongst all of the women together.
