Dizzy Rascal Dream, Andrew Goodwin's theory

Andrew Goodwin's theory of music videos relates to Dream by Dizzy Rascal.
This can be seen in this image as when the jack in the box begins winding and simultaneously the music starts. This relates to two of the key elements of Goodwin's theory. It relates to the relationship
between the music and the visuals as the music intentionally begins as the winder as shown to be starting to move. This also relates to intertextual references as a music box toy is known to produce music as the handle is wound. This toy is indigenous to the time period that the music video is trying to represent.




This shot relates to the emphasis on looking as the woman looks at the audience trying to get their attention, turning them into a voyeur, she then looks disapprovingly back at Dizzy. The effect of this
is that it is drawing the audiences attention to the protagonist as the woman passes judgement on him which creates a more personal link to the audienece with the media as opinions are being related and presented to them. This also relates to intertextual references as it is showing the way that an older white female would disapprove of the mannerisms of a young black male. At this point the relationship between visuals and lyrics is also relevent as whilst the woman looks over at Dizzy passing judgement he is saying "how am i gonna pull this off man without sounding dumb? Yhis is too sensible for me man" This connotes that he is aware that he is aware that he is being judged and is concerned that he isnt percieved in a negative way and that it is important for him to attempt to portray that he has intelligence which those judging him would believe that he lacks



This shot relates to the demands of a record label as it is one of multiple close ups of Dizzy Rascal, this is putting emphasis on the aritist and selling him to the audience whilst associating him with the record label. Within this still there is also relation to the music videos genre characteristics. The protagonist is demonstrating a stereotypical greeting within the black culture of touching fists and is dressed in a baggy tracksuit. These are common characteristics of a rap video as they are a demonstration of the black culture.

i daniel blake, production and distribution

Media products are produced and distributed to audiences in different ways. I Daniel Blake was produced as an independent film as it had little funding with aid from multiple production companies including; BBC films, Wild Bunch, Why Not Productions and the BFI. Independent films are funded by public funding e.g. the national lottery, by individual investment where people bring their own money and through co-productions where multiple companies come together to produce and distribute the media, splitting the costs and profits. Riptide narrative codes and conventions

In the Riptide music video there are elements of coherence throughout where by montage is used to constantly go back to shots of the woman as well as the sea where the riptides are. This consistency throughout is clear evidence of coherence. There is evidence of postmodernism in the video through the key postmodern aspect of nostalgia where the lyrics state what the singer was once scared of and with the lyrics matching the visuals this puts additional emphasis on the sense of nostalgia, showing this music videos postmodern approach. The riptide is very literal and relates to roland barthes theory that constructed meanings can come to seem self evident.
