In the band aid song the music is upbeat and positive throughout which conveys that the people who created the song are trying to convey the positive mesages of christmas by keeping the tempo of the song high. The lyrics of the song are talking aboutthe people who are going through struggles and the aim of the song is to spread the message of christmas to those who may not experience it otherwise. In contrast the world hunger advert plays slow music throughout. Similarly to the band aid song its aim is to raise awareness for those who are not in such a good situation but instead of trying to spread the positive cheer of a world known holiday the advertisement is attempting to convey a message of information and guilt. The adverts music does not consist of lyrics which connotes that there is not words that can describe the struggle that the people are going through. Woman's Realm  was a British weekly women's magazine first published in 1958.  One of the editors-in-chief  was Joyce Wards.   In 2001 it was merged with  Woman's Weekly .  It closed because its sales dropped as the magazine became less popular due to less popular publishings.  The types of articles were fashion and homeware based.  Womans realm is notably different to the huck magazine. One main difference being the capability to keep up with the audiences interests. Huck magazine is very current whereas woman realm went out of business due to a lack of this. Another key difference is the audience that the magazines target. Womans realm targets a mass market of all women, and Huck magazine targets a more niche market which is the gender neutral crowd, with a skating focus which has evolved into writing on current affairs.

Context 1940's and 1950's

In the 1940's advert the message conveyed is trying to persuade women to get to the workplace to take the jobs the jobs of men who have gone to war. The advert however is still negative towards women, even when attempting to encourage them, this can be seen where it says "turns out you gals are useful after all". This is a backhanded compliment as it is evident that the men producing this advert did not initially believe that the women were useful but now that there are no women around, there is a place for them in the workplace. At this time the men had gone off to war and essential jobs needed filling, so women who were considered to be the servers of men were requested to fill these essential gaps. Gauntletts collective identity theory By thinking about their own identity, attitudes, behaviour and lifestyle in relation to those of media figures- some of whom may be potential ‘role models’, others just the opposite- individuals make decisions and judgements about their own way of living (and that of others). It is for this reason that the ‘role model’ remains an important concept, although it should not be taken to mean someone that a person wants to copy. Instead, role models serve as navigation points as individuals steer their own personal routes through life. (Their general direction, we should note, however, is more likely to be shaped by parents, friends, teachers, colleagues and other people encountered in everyday life).

In the media woman are most commonly portrayed as sexual objects.Through the way they dress to the way they conduct themselves, directors will force woman to display themselves as sexual objects whose purpose is the pleasure of men as well as setting the example for other woman that this is all that they should be doing. They are represented as damsels who require men to be their hero or the man to provide for them financially as well as in terms of approval. The media can also be deceiving as woman may be given a protagonist role and are supposedly a hero, however they may still be victims of sexualisation. Across all media platforms woman are objectified, and there are few examples where woman are enabled to genuinely oppose this. In the image Nicki Minaj; a famous female rap/pop artist is being represented. She is represented as sexy and mysterious with secrets to be told. The genre of the magazine comes within fashion and beauty. The representation of Nicki Minaj is supported by her costume which is a tight, black leather jacket and tight, black trousers. The jacket is partially unzipped revealing some of the protagonists' cleavage supporting the representation of sexualising her. The text then supports the representation that she is mysterious as it states that the article contains exclusive information that people did not know about the celebrity beforehand. The main images and cover lines are foregrounded as they are what will draw in the audiences attention. The magazine title is backgrounded as maybe it's not as popular a magazine and is trying to use its content as it's unique selling point rather than popular brand name. It is the magazines representation of Nicki Minaj.
