Beyonce Formation

Beyonce's star image and persona does not undermine her political and social message. The music video conveys a clear message, irrelevant of who produces it. With her image it simply gives her access to a bigger platform and have greater influence. In the start of the video beyonce is sat on a police car in a typically masculine position eith her legs spread apart, this connotes that she is supporting those who are challenged by the police by showing her lack of respect for them as she sits atop a police car. This supports bell hooks theory that feminism is a constant struggle as beyonce is having to portray herself in a masculine way in order for people to listen to her message as well as putting herself at risk of being scrutinised by composing an act that in a real world situation would result in her getting into trouble eith the law. Beyonce is using her star persona in order to attract people to listen to the social message that she is portraying by using laura mulveys the...

Beyonce, context research

black feminism/ intertextuality-  Black feminism  is a school of thought stating that sexism,  class oppression, gender identity and racism  are inextricably bound together.  The way these concepts relate to each other is called intersectionality. antebellum- before the war black is beautiful-  Black is beautiful   is a  cultural movement  that was started in the US in the 1960s by  African Americans.  It later spread beyond the United States, most prominently in the writings of the  Black Conciousness Movement  of  Steve Biko  in  South Africa. It aims to dispel the racist notion that  black people's  natural features such as skin color, facial features and hair are inherently ugly.  blackgirlmagic- is a concept born as a way to crlebrate the beauty, power and resilience of a black woman.

Dizzy Rascal Dream, Andrew Goodwin's theory

Image
Andrew Goodwin's theory of music videos relates to Dream by Dizzy Rascal. This can be seen in this image as when the jack in the box begins winding and simultaneously the music starts. This relates to two of the key elements of Goodwin's theory. It relates to the relationship between the music and the visuals as the music intentionally begins as the winder as shown to be starting to move. This also relates to intertextual references as a music box toy is known to produce music as the handle is wound. This toy is indigenous to the time period that the music video is trying to represent. This shot relates to the emphasis on looking as the woman looks at the audience trying to get their attention, turning them into a voyeur, she then looks disapprovingly back at Dizzy. The effect of this is that it is drawing the audiences attention to the protagonist as the woman passes judgement on him which creates a more personal link to the audienece with the media as opinions are b...
